Greetings, introduction and question [Apr. 16th, 2009|03:00 pm]
Elfwood Critiques

Greetings fellow fantasy artists, writers and readers alike

my name is matt, namuh htrae is the name of a series of novels i'm working on.

Pardon if I seem like i'm advertising, but the series is a multi-genre piece, beginning with high fantasy genre.

The story is about Namuh Htrae, a being who lives through the birth of our universe, awakened by a sorcress, who teaches him about the continuing war that is happening between the followers of Dark and Light, the first novel being based around the establishment of Namuh Htrae and his early adventures in the prehistoric world leading up to the beginning of man.

As I am new to writing in high fantasy, I wished to ask most fantasy fans here, what makes a good high fantasy tale for them personally?

Also was there anything in particular they'd like to see in a high fantasy novel that they haven't seen before?

I wish the best to all of you and the best towards obtaining your achievements of publication, fame and fortune.

I look forward to hearing from you

Yours sincerely

Matt B (namuhhtrae)

PS: Please feel free to have a look at my blog about my novel if you'd like to know more.

A happy New Year to you! [Jan. 6th, 2008|05:08 pm]
Elfwood Critiques
Hey folks.

Hope all is well and you're not suffering too much from January 2008 blues! There hasn't been much action in this community but I thought I would ask for critiques myself. I have posted to Elfwood but there's a queue...so I think I have to wait another week or so before I get published! Booo! But if you have the time, I have created a website for one of my stories and would love some critique...

Have a good year.

Sorry but i'm not a computer wizz kid and i'm afarid i don't know how to put a link (for my first chapter only) onto a post! i've looked through FAQ's too. So i anyone can fill me in on that too, i'd much appreciate it!

Well, as the subject says, this is my first post into the EW critiques journal. I've been watching the main EW journal for some time, but now I feel like joining this one too.

I live again! [Jan. 7th, 2007|05:30 pm]

Slight exaggeration, I know. But I really need to kick the gears here up a bit more ^_^ I've generally not been around a lot to do so.

What are some things that could be brought into the community to amplify it and perhaps create more participation and posting? I'd like to do that without tearing down the core of what the community is, so don't worry about that, I just want some opinions and ideas :)

Totally separate from those questions I do have a piece I'd like some help and opinions on.

I am working on this one, again, for the Pathfinder's totem card deck (www.pathfindersdeck.com)
It's two satyrs dancing, playing music, generally celebrating :)

*Click on the thumbnails to see the full pieces.*

First and foremost, I'd really like any tips and pointers on painting skin in photoshop.

I have three different samples of ways I've painted his skin, and wondering which one looks better or seems more natural giving the lighting.

Of course, its not too late to critique anything else, the linework, lighting, composition, etc. Anything would be a boon ^_^

After some constructive criticism [Dec. 17th, 2006|01:54 am]
Elfwood Critiques

Hi, I've never plugged my work before but here goes...

I've come back to my shelf at Elfwood after a few years' absence and, having blown off the cobwebs, I think it's time to actually do some editing and update the old stuff.

Any constructive crits would be great, particularly on the "newer" pieces. Shadows will have to wait and the poetry... I ain't gonna mess. I would like opinions on Lust, Afterimages, Allnighter, Hero's Day in particular but hey - speak as you find.

My shelf

Thanks in advance!

Totem cards. [Dec. 6th, 2006|08:26 pm]
Elfwood Critiques

Running behind on my two pieces for the Pathfinders totem card deck.

The first is a card representative of Bats. I've included a fruit bat looking at a tasty fruit, a little vampite bat, bat hunting a moth and a fishing bat starting to chow down on his catch.

And the card representative of faun and satyr. A chalice of wine at his feet and he is using the magic of his panpipes to create plant life from the dead tree stump.

I realize there is a crease on the satyr piece, but that will change when I transfer them onto bristol board.

Looking for any critique, for composition, anatomy what ever. I am even looking for some suggestions on color themes as right now I cant think of a theme that will will really work to maximum effect.

Thanks so much for your time :)
